Our Commitment

It all starts with the waste…

Food waste is a critical issue around the globe with more than 1.3 billion tons of food wasted annually.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, 30% of global agricultural land resources, 19% of fertilizers, and 10% of the world’s freshwater is used for food that will go to waste.

Food waste is also a major source of greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change. Approximately 8% of greenhouse gases (GHG) are generated by wasted food with 25% of freshwater resources wasted annually.

The waste of food is one of the largest contributors to global greenhouse gas emissions. When food waste ends up in landfills and is left to rot, it releases large amounts of methane, a potent greenhouse gas that is 28 times more potent than carbon dioxide.

Landfills are the third-largest contributor to methane emissions in the United States, according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The amount of methane generated by landfills in the U.S. is equal to the entire state of Massachusetts’ greenhouse gas emissions.

Did you know ?

Only 38% of pineapple gets used by the food industry and the rest is discarded as waste.

Bio-Uptek uses this waste to create our incredible product.

Why Pineapple Waste?

Upcycling pineapple waste for cosmetic products is an innovative way to reduce food waste and provide eco-friendly cosmetic ingredients.

Pineapples are a significant source of waste products that can be repurposed, including the skin, leaves, and stem. Pineapple waste, when discarded, is a significant source of GHG emissions.

Upcycling pineapple waste into beauty products reduces the amount of waste produced that would have gone to landfills where Anaerobic Digestion (AD) occurs to produce methane gas.
